"Even while there are forces of the Armed Revolution, there are the Legal Democratic Forces in the Philippines. The biggest of these is Bagong Alyansang Makabayan or BAYAN, in short.

Its biggest component organizations are the Kilusang Mayo Uno which is the labor center, the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas or KMP, GABRIELA - the Women's Alliance, League of FIlipino Students (LFS), Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), KADENA, and so on."

In order to carry out the plan to overthrow the government, the CPP-NPA-NDF masterminded three major events that changed the history of the country - the First Quarter Storm in 1970 which was shortly followed by the Plaza Miranda Bombing in 1971, and the MV Karagatan Arms Shipment in 1972.

THE FIRST QUARTER STORM

Coined by Jose Maria Sison, the First Quarter Storm was  the huge anti-government youth revolution in the first three months of 1970. It Propelled the Kabataang Makabayan and National Union of the Students of the Philippines (NUSP) to conduct a series of violent strikes, protests, and demonstrations.

The First Quarter Storm

During the period of civil unrest, top CPP cadres under the leadership of Jose Maria Sison led violent demonstrations that provoked retaliation from the police resulting to overwhelming youth outrage and revolt.

The result was just as the CTG intended. In the days following the terrorist attack,  Filipino civilians were propelled into mass protest and action, many times facilitated by CTG front organizations.

THE MV KARAGATAN

The MV Karagatan was a ship vessel utitlized in the infiltration of high-powered rifles, 40-millimeter rocket launchers, rocket projectiles, communication equipment, ammunition, and other assorted war materials by the CTG.
