EV police troops encounter CTG in Northern Samar

CAMP RUPERTO KANGLEON, Campetik, Palo, Leyte -- Operating troops of Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) under the leadership of PBGen. Rommel Bernardo A. Cabagnot, regional director, encountered an attack plotted by six (6) unidentified suspected members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) that transpired at Sitio Agsian, Brgy. Happy Valley, San Isidro, Northern Samar on August 18, 2021.

A total of six (6) CTG members attempted to assault the operating team of 1st Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st NSPMFC) led by PMaj. Edwin M. Oloan Jr., force commander, 1st NSPMFC, alongside 16 other police personnel while conducting combat patrol operation at the vicinity of aforesaid town. Exchange of fire lasted for about ten minutes, after which, CTG flee to southeast direction.

Accordingly, no reported casualty or injury on the government side while undetermined on the enemy side, but presence of bloodstains was spotted in the area of the attack.

Further, recovered from the place of incident were as follows: one (1) roll detonating cord approximately 200 meters long; one (1) roll time fuse approximately 200 meters long; one (1) electric wire approximately 20 meters long; improvised shrapnel; estimated 500 pieces blasting caps; one (1) 12V battery for motorcycle; and other personal belongings.

“This rebel group is adding much chaos and panic in the community without feeling remorse by putting the public in danger and instilling fear as well. Apparently, they are the ones mostly affected by these futile attempts to overpower the government despite the global crisis we are all facing at this point Regional Director Cabagnot stated.

Operatives of 1st NSPMFC and other nearby police stations are now scouring the area in search of the fleeing rebels.

“The whole police force will continue to be alert and vigilant for any possible retaliations from this CTG after the chance encounter,” he further said.
