DAVAO CITY – Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas has declared his support to the continued implementation of the Barangay Development Program (BDP) funded by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
Cagas issued a statement of support on April 30, 2021, which was addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte, the Senate and House of Representatives.
Under the BDP funds, he bared that eight barangays in the province, which have been declared cleared of communist presence and influence, will benefit from a development package worth P20 million for each barangay.
In fact, he said that a total of P160 million BDP funds “have been downloaded to our coffers already, and the project pre-implementation phase is now underway.”
The eight barangay-recipients are: Goma and Balabag in Digos City; Sibayan, Darapuay and Managa in Bansalan; Asbang and Colosabak in Matanao; and Saliducon in Sta. Cruz.
Cagas underscored the importance of participation of the recipient communities in identifying the projects and programs based on their current needs, such as road concreting, installation of potable water system and solar-powered street lights, poultry raising, and among others.
The governor said that more insurgency-cleared barangays in the province will also be receiving “similar incentives on the second batch of DBP implementation.”
“As I see it, there is no valid reason of disrupting the momentum, much less, halting these noble programs that are intended to benefit our development-deprived villagers by defunding the NTF-ELCAC,” the governor stated.
Cagas lauded the government’s initiatives in achieving genuine and lasting peace in the country, saying that these have been “manifesting fruition and have been winning the hearts of our misled Filipino brothers and sisters, as evidenced by the number of formers rebels returning to the folds of law.”
He said that the Davao del Sur provincial government, on its part, has been extending financial and livelihood assistance, as well as various skills trainings for the former rebels through the Tupad Pangako Program.
The governor ended his statement of support, emphasizing that “the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur joins the Duterte Administrator and the NTF-ELCAC in ensuring progressive, just and peaceful lives to our people.” (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
