NTF-ELCAC, DILG to commence P40M SBDP Projects in Ilocos Sur

VIGAN CITY – The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will commence today the Php40-million worth projects funded from the Local Government Support Funds (LGSF) of the national government under the Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP) in the two identified barangay-beneficiaries in Ilocos Sur.


Of the 822 barangays cleared of insurgency nationwide from 2016-2019, which are approved by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to be given Php20 million each under the BDP, Baluarte in Salcedo and Nagbettedan in Sto. Domingo are the only barangays in Ilocos Region included as beneficiaries of the BDP 2021.


In Salcedo, development projects such as concreting of farm-to-market road worth Php12 million, rehabilitation of Barangay Health Center worth three million pesos, construction of public toilet worth one million pesos, and construction of school building worth two million pesos will be break ground, according to the DILG.


The remaining two million pesos will be spent for the provision of assistance to indigent individuals and implementation of livelihood, technical, and vocational trainings.


In an interview, Salcedo Mayor Leopoldo Gironella said he is thankful to President Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70's NTF-ELCAC that institutionalized a whole of government and whole-of-nation approach which helped in attaining a more peaceful and conflict-free Salcedo specifically barangay Baluarte.


Barangay Baluarte was cleared of communist terrorist group affectation last 2019.


Meanwhile in Nagbettedan, Sto. Domingo, Php16 million was allotted for the development of a farm-to-market road and two million pesos for the construction of a school building.


A groundbreaking activity on these programs will also be done today.


The remaining two million pesos will also be spent for the provision of assistance to indigent individuals and implementation of the farmers’ livestock training on cattle feedlot with an after training support program.


These projects are identified by the residents and the local government unit, the DILG said.


National Security Adviser Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, Jr., Vice Chairperson of the NTF-ELCAC and Cabinet Officer for Regional Development for Region 1 is expected to spearhead the scheduled activities. (JCR/JMCQ, PIA Ilocos Sur)
