The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting intelligence information to verify the alleged assassination plot hatched by the New People’s Army (NPA) against the spokespersons of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
In a statement Friday, the NTF-ELCAC quoted PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar as saying that validation is ongoing to determine the veracity of the “Oplan Delta,” an operation supposedly created by the communist rebels to derail the peace gains of the anti-communist task force by assassinating some of its top officials.
“No amount of demolition job or even assassination plan can hamper its realization (peace gains). Kami po sa Philippine National Police ay kikilos at gagawa ng kaparaanan upang ang adhikaing kapayapaan at kaunlaran ng NTF ELCAC ay matupad (We, in the Philippine National Police, will act and make ways to ensure that the pea e and development advocacy of the NTF-ELCAC will be achieved),” Eleazar was quoted as saying by the NTF-ELCAC.
In May, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. bared the existence of an assassination plot against top NTF-ELCAC officials. Esperon is the task force’s vice chairman.
Esperon had said that police and military forces thwarted the assassination plan after a joint operation in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Three suspected NPA members were killed in the operation, he said.
Last July 5, Undersecretary Lorraine Marie Badoy revealed that the NPA was planning to launch an attack in Quezon City. Badoy is one of the eight spokespersons of the task force.
Badoy said that the NPA has created a “committee” against each of the NTF-ELCAC’s spokespersons
