Military to intensify insurgency campaign

CAMP MELCHOR DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela: The military here promised to intensify its campaign against insurgency in Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Regions as 140 additional soldiers have reported to the Fifth Infantry Division (5th ID) here.

Maj. Jekyll Julian Dulawan, 5th ID spokesperson, said 140 privates will beef up the campaign to end communist armed conflicts in the area.

The 119 male and 21 female soldiers completed their six-month military training on July 23 at Training and Doctrine Command, Camp O'Donnell, Capaz, Tarlac. "They have finished their training and are now prepared to conquer the responsibilities they have chosen as part of the Philippine Army," Dulawan said.

Maj. Gen. Laurence Mina, division commander, welcomed the new soldiers.

"The training you underwent prepared you to face the challenges of the profession of arms. As new members of Fifth Infantry Division, I expect you will adhere to the tradition of excellence the Command believes in," Mina said.

The 140 soldiers underwent RT-PCR tests in their designated quarantine facility inside the camp.

"This is to adhere to the health protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force against Covid-19 and to the policies inside the camp to protect every trooper against the threat of the virus," Mina added.
